Nèg’ Marrons is more than 25 years of committed music. Jacky and Ben-J, childhood friends from Cape Verde and Congo, grew up in Garges-lès-Gonesse (95) and got into hip-hop at an early age, influenced by Ministère A.M.E.R, Dee Nasty and the American scene.
Their rap, marked by pride in their Afro identity and political struggles, is part of an assertive spirit of rebellion. They made a name for themselves in 1995 with “La Monnaie”, before signing to Sony Music and scoring a major hit with their first album, “Rue case nègre”, which went gold in 1997.
A key figure on the French reggae-hip-hop scene and a member of the Secteur Ä collective, they have been involved in a host of projects (Première Classe, Bissona Bissso) and prestigious collaborations (Wyclef Jean, Alpha Blondy, Cesária Évora). Back with a new project, the Nèg’ Marrons are pursuing a rich, festive and committed career, always with an eye to the stage.
